Welcome back! Today Tyler and Mike have a special guest, one of their fellow contributors from Signal Horizon.com, Kati. Today all three are discussing the brand new movie, The Ritual, which you can check out on Netflix. Unless you are in the UK, then you have to go the the movie theater. In particular, we are discussing the themes of toxic masculinity and the literary genre of magical realism.
3:00- Tyler just finished reading Paul Tremblay's new book, Cabin at the End of the World. Head on over to Signal Horizon and check out his full review.
4:40- Mike just finished up reading America's Dark Theologian, which is an academic work about the religious undercurrents in Stephen King's Body of work. It's just the right mix of academic and mass market, so head on over and check out Mike's full review of America's Dark Theologian here.
9:35- Kati is a huge Stephen King fan, so we discuss some of the religious cosmology that he uses in his works.
13:25- Make sure that you check out our Horror Pod Class Extra Credit Episode featuring our interview with Kristi DeMeester. We really love her short horror fiction and you can check some of it out too over at The Dark Magazine.
14:45- Head on over to Adam Nevill's Website. Not only did he write The Ritual, but he also has a book that you can download for free entitled Cries from the Crypt. Check it out!
16:00- This is about where we start the main discussion about Toxic Masculinity, The Ritual, and Magical Realism.
51:30- Kati drops the Hillbilly Horror Trope, which does kind of fit in with The Ritual. Head on over here for some more discussion of Hillbilly Horror.
